Leak to dry to treated, one company in Cheshunt
Cheshunt's housing runs from Victorian and Edwardian terraces around Churchgate and the old High Street through 1930s semis in Bury Green and Flamstead End to postwar and 1960s low-rise flats near Turnford and Brookfield. Solid brick walls, older lime-based plaster and a high local water table near the Lee Navigation and gravel pits all slow drying and raise the risk of trapped moisture after a leak.

Drying challenges in Cheshunt homes
Solid brick walls and old lime plaster in the older terraces
Around Churchgate and the original Cheshunt High Street, many terraces still have solid brick walls finished in lime plaster rather than modern gypsum board. Lime plaster holds water differently and can look dry on the surface while remaining damp underneath, so we monitor moisture readings over several days and adjust airflow and dehumidification to avoid trapping water behind old skirting and dado rails.
Concrete screed floors in 1960s and 70s flats near Turnford and Brookfield
The low-rise flats and maisonettes built around Turnford and Brookfield often sit on solid concrete screed rather than suspended timber floors. Screed absorbs water slowly and releases it even more slowly, so a burst pipe or washing machine leak can leave moisture locked beneath skirtings and flooring for weeks. We use screed-specific meters and targeted extraction to stop it pushing damp up into walls.
High water table and proximity to the Lee Navigation and gravel pits
Parts of Cheshunt sit close to the Lee Navigation and former gravel pits, where groundwater levels run high, particularly at Cheshunt Wash and Wormley. This limits how quickly saturated subfloors and lower walls can dry naturally and increases the risk of rising damp and secondary mould after a flood, so drying plans here often need extended dehumidifier runs and repeat moisture checks before reinstatement work begins.
What our customers say
I recently used a damp and mould specialist company and was extremely impressed with the service from start to finish. From the initial survey, they were knowledgeable, thorough, and took the time to clearly explain the cause of the issue rather than just treating the symptoms.
