Leak to dry to treated, one company in Leigh
Leigh's housing runs from Victorian brick terraces built for cotton and mining workers through to 1930s semis and post-war council estates around Bedford and Higher Folds. Solid-walled terraces with cellars, shallow foundations and later cavity infill extensions all trap moisture differently, so a burst pipe or roof leak here rarely dries out on its own before plaster and joists suffer.

Drying challenges in Leigh homes
Lime and brick terraces holding water in solid walls
Many of Leigh's older terraces off streets like those in Pennington and Bedford were built with solid brick walls and lime mortar, sometimes later parged or dry-lined. Once saturated by a leak, these walls hold moisture within the brickwork itself, not just the plaster face. Standard surface drying misses this, leaving damp trapped behind skirting and battens for months and encouraging mould to return.
Screeded solid floors over old mining ground
A lot of Leigh's post-war housing sits on solid concrete floors with a sand and cement screed finish, laid over ground that was reshaped after the borough's coal mining era. When water gets under skirting or through a slab crack, the screed absorbs it and the disturbed subsoil beneath can hold groundwater longer, slowing evaporation and risking hollow, cracked flooring if it is not dried thoroughly.
Cavity extensions and lofts hiding trapped moisture
Rear extensions added to Leigh's semis and terraces in Westleigh and Lowton often mix cavity block walls with timber stud partitions and boxed-in pipework. Leaks here run into wall voids and loft spaces rather than showing on the surface, so damp sits unseen against insulation and timber. Left unchecked this drives mould growth in voids long before any staining appears on the plaster.
What our customers say
I recently used a damp and mould specialist company and was extremely impressed with the service from start to finish. From the initial survey, they were knowledgeable, thorough, and took the time to clearly explain the cause of the issue rather than just treating the symptoms.
