Rising damp in 1930s semis
Many Hayes End semis on roads off Freeman's Way and Central Avenue were built with early damp-proof courses that have since failed or been bridged by raised patios and flowerbeds. This lets groundwater track up through solid brick walls, causing crumbling plaster, tide marks and musty smells in ground-floor rooms, particularly in hallways and front reception rooms facing the street.
